Lt Gen SM Shafiuddin Ahmed made new army chief

Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed has been made the new chief of Bangladesh Army for the next three years with a promotion to the rank of general.

The appointment and promotion will be effective from 24 June.

The defence ministry has issued a gazette notification on Thursday.

Lieutenant General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed will replace outgoing army chief General Aziz Ahmed.

SM Shafiuddin Ahmed is the 17th chief of the force.
