Ramadan begins today in Bangladesh
The Ramadan month of Hijri calendar will begin in the country on Saturday as the Ramadan moon was sighted in Bangladesh’s sky today.
The National Moon-sighting Committee took the decision at a meeting held at the national mosque Baitul Mukarram in the city on Friday.
After the meeting, religious affairs ministry secretary Nurul Islam said that the moon was sighted in Netrokona and Jamalpur. So Ramadan - the month of fasting for Muslims - will begin from Saturday, he added.
Lailatul Qadr, the night of divine blessing and benediction, will be observed on the night of 20 May.
This year, maximum 12 people, including two imams, can attend Tarabi prayers in mosques each during the holy month of Ramadan.
The step was taken to prevent the spread coronavirus in the country.
Muslims in Saudi Arabia have, however, started fasting from today.
