Former captain of the Bangladesh national cricket team and member of parliament from the Narail-2 constituency, Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, has said he will use part of the money he got from auctioning his bracelet, to tackle coronavirus in Narail. He said this during a video conference Sunday afternoon at the Narail deputy commissioner’s office.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza said, the people of Narail must be saved from this pandemic. He would protect Narail against coronavirus at any cost. He would arrange funds, ensure appointment of the necessary workforce and anything that would be required. He thanked the private organisations that had come forward to assist in sample collection. He said he would use the money earned though the auction to tackle coronavirus through his Narail Express Foundation.

At the meeting chaired by deputy commissioner Anjuman Ara, it was said that 10 private medical technologists and technicians would be appointed in three upazilas of the district. It was decided that the district administration and some other organisations would provide ambulances, fuel and other assistance to facilitate sample collection and sending samples to the labs for coronavirus tests.

According to the health department, there are only four medical technologists in the district, though there are 8 posts. One of the four is on leave.

So far 892 samples have been collected in Narail district and 60 COVID-19 cases confirmed. Two of the patients died.
