Bangladesh reports highest 6,058 Covid cases since 12 Apr, 81 deaths in 24 hrs

The number of detected novel coronavirus cases in Bangladesh, according to the government, on Thursday rose to 872,935 as 6,058 more cases were reported after testing 30,391 samples including rapid antigen tests in the last 24 hours.

This is the highest single-day detection in two and a half month. A total of 7,201 cases were reported on 12 April.

During that time 81 Covid-19 patients died, raising the total deaths in the country to 13,868, said a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Thursday.

The rate of detection in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am was 19.93 per cent.

The health directorate today said some 3,230 people recovered from the highly infectious disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of the total recovery to 794,783.

Of the people who died in the last 24 hours, 55 were male and 26 female.

Among the Covid-19 patients who died in the last 24 hours, 23 were in Khulna division, 13 in Dhaka, 20 in Rajshahi and seven in Chattogram, seven in Rangpur, five in Sylhet, three each in Barishal and Mymensingh.

The DGHS in their regular health bulletin on Wednesday warned that the coronavirus situation may take alarming turn if the health protocols set by government are not properly followed.

In the bulletin, physician Robed Amin, line director of non-communicable disease control (NCDC) of DGHS, said the number of Covid-19 cases has been increasing alarmingly.

Bangladesh detected its first coronavirus patient on 8 March last year and recorded its first death in the disease on 18 March that year.
