The home ministry has been asked to beef up surveillance on TikTok users, a platform for short-form videos, considering its detrimental effects and misuse, said a press release from the Bangladesh secretariat.

The parliamentary standing committee on the home affairs came up with this recommendation on Thursday at a meeting at the national parliament building in Dhaka.

The release said the committee asked the home ministry to send letters to the concerned ministries and the organisations over strengthening surveillance on TikTok users, considering its misuse and harmful effects.

Besides, the committee recommended taking a zero tolerance policy against drug and hundi businesses.
