JCI Dhaka Young stands by Daulatdia sex workers

Junior Chamber International (JCI) Dhaka Young distributed food essentials among 230 sex workers in Daulatdia of Rajbari district under its 'Manush Manusher Jonno' project recently, said a press release.

Doulatdia hosts the largest brothel in Bangladesh but it has been closed since March 2020 when the COVID-19 hit Bangladesh.

As a result of the pandemic, sex workers in Bangladesh, like other informal sector workers, are experiencing hardships and severe loss of income. Barely surviving with one meal a day, most of them struggled to keep their children and themselves alive amidst hunger and poverty.

JCI Dhaka Young executive vice president Nazmul Hossain Shobuz and general legal counsel Samia Rahman with the help of Goalanda Police Station officer-in-charge Ashikur Rahman distributed the packages using social distancing guidelines.

Each of the packets they distributed contained 10 kg rice, 2 kg lentils, 2 kg flour, 1 kg sugar and 1 litre oil.
