Journalist Faruk Quazi passes away

Senior journalist and former deputy press secretary of prime minister Faruk Quazi passed away at his residence on Friday, reports UNB.

He was 71.

Faruk, also former chief of correspondents of United News of Bangladesh, breathed his last in his sleep around 8:00am at his Elephant Road residence, his daughter Arshi Quazi told UNB.

Faruk, former president of Law Reporters' Forum (LRF), left behind wife, one daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.

Faruk Quazi, also former press minister of Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, served as a senior journalist in many organisations, including Bangladesh Shangbad Shangstha (BSS).

He was laid to rest at Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard in Mirpur around 2:30pm following his namaz-e-janaza at Kataban mosque in the city after Jum'a prayer, his daughter Arshi Quazi told UNB.

He was born in 17 January, 1949 at Thanapara in Kushtia district.

Renowned actor Quazi Rashidul Huq Pasha, also a journalist, is the elder brother of Faruk Quazi.

Meanwhile, prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at his death.

Chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, information minister Hasan Mahmud, law minister Anisul Huq on Friday expressed deep shock at the demise of the senior journalist.

Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) also expressed profound shock at the death of Faruk Quazi.
