A 12-year-old has died while under treatment at the isolation ward in Jashore General Hospital on Monday.

The child was from Enayetpur village in Jashore sadar upazila.

“He came to the emergency department of the hospital with fever, cough and respiratory complications on Sunday,” said Harun-Ar-Rashid, physician and assistant director of Jashore General Hospital. “He was admitted and sent to institutional quarantine in the isolation ward where he died Monday,” he said.

A physician found the child dead while visiting the ward in the morning, according to the hospital. No family members were found near him.

According to the hospital, the child caught cough about a month ago, but his fever and breathing complications began a few days ago. He was taken to the isolation ward for showing coronavirus like symptoms.

“It’s not clear whether the child has died of coronavirus. We’ve contacted with the IEDCR (Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research),” said Harun-Ar-Rashid, adding, “the IEDCR said no screening was needed as the symptoms of the dead did not match with that of a coronavirus patient.”
