COVID-19 cases jump to 1,132 in Rajshahi division

The number of COVID-19 patients in Rajshahi division jumped to 1,132 with detection of 82 new cases, reported from all its eight districts on Wednesday, said a COVID-19 quarantine and isolation related daily report on Thursday.

Of the newly confirmed cases, 26 were detected in Bogura district, taking its total reported cases to 475, the highest in the division, said Gopendra Nath Acharya, divisional director of health.

He also said that 16 people were tested positive for COVID-19 in Joypurhat followed by 14 in Sirajganj and Naogaon districts each.

Following the confirmation of new cases, the infected persons in the division were placed on 14-day home isolation, reports news agency BSS.

Gopendra Nath Acharya also said the whereabouts of the persons, who came in contact with the COVID-19 patients, were brought to notice and they were asked to remain in home isolation to stop further spread of the virus.

Of the infected patients, as of Thursday morning, 264 recovered from the disease while nine die and 292 patients were undergoing treatment in hospitals in the division.

The district-wise number of reported COVID-19 cases now stands at 66 in Rajshahi, 56 in Chapainawabganj, 146 in Naogaon, 60 in Natore, 205 in Joypurhat, 475 in Bogura, 72 in Sirajganj and 52 in Pabna.

The divisional director of health further said all the patients, detected so far, have been brought under necessary treatment while 538 others are being monitored in isolation units at different hospitals and another 349 were released.

On the other hand, a total of 357 more people has been placed in home and institutional quarantine afresh as part of the efforts to bring all the suspected under quarantine while 728 others were released in all eight districts of the division in the last 24 hours till 8:00am today.

With this, the number of people quarantined at home and institutions stands at 3,964. A total of 39,580 people has, so far, been kept under quarantine since 10 March to prevent community transmission of coronavirus disease. Of them, 35,616 have been released after completing their 14-day quarantine period.

Among the new quarantined people, two have been kept at home in Rajshahi, nine in Chapainawabganj, 157 in Naogaon, 27 in Joypurhat, 61 in Bogura, five in Sirajganj and 96 in Pabna districts.

Gopendra Nath added that utmost emphasis has been given to bring all the suspected people under quarantine, isolation and testing.
