COVID-19 cases jump to 5,230 in Rangpur division

The total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases sharply jumped to 5,230 till Thursday morning in all eight districts of Rangpur division, BSS reports.

Health officials said 125 new people were reported coronavirus positive after testing 376 collected samples at two COVID-19 Laboratories in Rangpur and Dinajpur yesterday raising the total number of infected patients to 5,230 in the division.

The district-wise break up of the patients stands at 1,539 in Rangpur, 233 in Panchagarh, 600 in Nilphamari, 294 in Lalmonirhat, 377 in Kurigram, 301 in Thakurgaon, 1,308 in Dinajpur and 578 Gaibandha of the division.

Focal person of COVID-19 and assistant director (Health) for Rangpur division ZA Siddiqui said the number of recovered patients is increasing alongside an increase in the number of daily infections in the division in recent weeks.

“With the 75 more recoveries on Wednesday, the total number of recovered patients rose to 3,437 at the recovery rate of 65.71 per cent today in the division,” he said.

The 3,537 recovered COVID-19 patients include 1,100 of Rangpur, 148 of Panchagarh, 476 of Nilphamari, 195 of Lalmonirhat, 200 of Kurigram, 216 of Thakurgaon, 786 of Dinajpur and 316 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

“With six more deaths reported on Tuesday, including two from Rangpur, three from Dinajpur and one from Thakurgaon, the total number of fatalities to 92 with the casualty rate of around 1.76 per cent in the division,” Siddiqui said.

The 92 deceased people include 28 of Rangpur, 27 of Dinajpur, 12 of Gaibandha, nine of Nilphamari, five of Kurigram, four each in Panchagarh and Thakurgaon and three of Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

Among the total 5,230 COVID-19 patients, 185 are undergoing treatments at isolation units of different hospitals after recovery of 3,437 recovered patients and 92 deaths while 1,516 remaining in home isolations in the division.
