Faridpur zila parishad chairman dies of COVID-19

Faridpur zila parishad Chairman and Awami League district unit vice-president Md Lokman Hossain Mridha died of COVID-19 at a city hospital on Friday morning, UNB reports.

He was 77.

Hossain breathed his last at 11:00am at Sheikh Russel Gastroliver Institute & Hospital, Mohakhali while undergoing treatment there, said Faridpur deputy commissioner Atul Sarkar.

Hossain was admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital on 22 June and tested positive for coronavirus the next day, said his personal secretary Rezaul Karim Mithu.

Later on 24 June, he was shifted to the hospital in the capital but was put under ventilation on Thursday as his condition deteriorated, he added.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at his death.

LGRD minister Md Tajul Islam and Faridpur-2 MP also the deputy leader of parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury among others expressed deep shock at the death of Md Lokman Hossain.
