First coronavirus case detected in Lakshmipur
A man in Lakshmipur has been tested positive for coronavirus. This is the first coronavirus case identified in the district.
This was confirmed by Gunomoy Poddar, Ramganj upazila health and family planning official and also member secretary of upazila coronavirus prevention committee.
The patient, 32, is a readymade garments worker in Dhaka. He returned to his village in Ramganj upazila about a week ago.
He did not have cold, fever or cough, but pain when he came to upazila health complex on his own, Gunomoy said.
Samples from his body were collected at the complex and sent to Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID) in Chattogram.
The results of the test were received around 11:00pm on Saturday and after an hour, with police assistance, he was taken to Bangladesh Kuwait Maitree Hospital in Dhaka, Gunomoy added.
We’ll hold an emergency meeting to determine directives following the latest development of coronavirus in the district, Lakshmipur civil surgeon Abdul Gaffar said.
Some 40 isolation units along with have been prepared in sadar hospital, while such units are 20 in Ramganj, 20 in Raipur and 20 at Kamalnagar health complex for COVID-19 patients.
