Health centre, houses gutted in Cox's Bazar Rohingya camp fire

A fire broke out at extended mega camp-20 for Rohingya refugees at Kutupalong in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's bazar on Sunday gutting at least 20 houses and a health centre, officials said, reports UNB.

The fire started at around 8:00am in the camp that burnt the houses and the health centre, operated by International Organization for Migration (IOM), said Md Shamsu-Ddouza Nayan, additional refugee relief and repatriation commissioner (deputy secretary).

The cause of the fire at block-D of the camp was not immediately known, said Naimul Haque, commander of Armed Police Battalion-14 (APBn).

At first Ukhiya fire service rushed to the camp and later two units of fire fighters from Ukhiya Fire Service and Civil Defence joined them and continued the efforts to control the fire, Md Abdullah, deputy assistant director of Cox's Bazar Fire Service.

No casualties were reported in the fire so far, said Naimul Haque, APBn-14 commander.
