Madaripur man suffering from fever dies

A man, suffering from fever and breathing complications, died in Kalkini upazila of Madaripur on early Sunday.

The 60-year-old man, a dredging trader by profession, caught fever and cold on Saturday afternoon, said Nasir Uddin Mridha, officer-in-charge of Kalkini police station. The man developed severe respiratory complications at night and succumbed to his pain, he added.

“Officials from the upazila health complex has been sent to the deceased’s house to collect samples," said Sanaullah, upazila health and family planning official.

OC Nasir Uddin said neither the deceased nor his relatives returned home from abroad.

The area will be kept under lockdown or not to be decided through an emergency meeting, the police official added.

Kalkini upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Aminul Islam said they will consider lockdown after receiving primary reports from the police, administration and health department.

As many as 3,532 migrants returned to Madaripur since 1 March. Among them, 1,388 were in home quarantine. Of them, 1,191 have completed the period.

Some 217 returnees have been maintaining home quarantine in the district. A person is kept in isolation in Kalkini.
