Record 16 patients die at RMCH in 24 hrs

A record number of 16 people undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital died in the last 24 hours, the highest in the last one and a half years, said the hospital authorities on Friday morning.

Among the 16 deceased, 10 were Covid-19 patients while another six had symptoms of coronavirus infection.

RMCH deputy director Saiful Ferdous around 10:00 am said, in the last 24 hours, 10 Covid-19 patients breathed their last at the hospital while another six had coronavirus infection symptoms.

He further said of them, nine were from Covid-19 “hotspot” Chapainawabganj, six from Rajshahi and one from Naogaon. Five patients were undergoing treatment at ICU (Intensive Care Unit).

Hospital sources said the number of deaths at RMCH has been rising since Eid-ul-Fitr. Ninety-three people died under treatment at the hospital between 24 May and 4 June. Among them, 56 were found to be infected with coronavirus. Other people had symptoms of coronavirus infection.

Hospital beds are almost full

The number of Covid-19 patients and people with symptoms of coronavirus infection is on the rise at the hospital. In the last 24 hours, 32 people were admitted at the hospital.

Of them, 15 were from Chapainawabganj, 13 from Rajshahi, three from Naogaon and one from Natore. Currently, the number of active patients at the hospital is 225.

RMCH authorities said the number of beds at the Corona Unit of the hospital is 232. Of those, 225 are already filled as of 10:00 am today.

RMCH deputy director Saiful Ferdous people with low oxygen saturation level are being allowed to take admission at the hospital.
