Rohingya woman dies while fleeing Bhasan Char

A 30-year-old Rohingya woman, who fled Bhasan Char Rohingya camp for Teknaf, died in Noakhali's Subarnachar Sunday, reports UNB.

Setara Begum, daughter of late Noor Mohammad, lived in cluster number 10 of Bhasan Char, said Ziaul Haque, officer-in-charge (OC) of Char Jabbar police station.

The law enforcers detained Noor Bahar, 60, mother of the deceased, following the incident.

Noor Bahar and Setara fled Bhasan Char, a remote island in Noakhali's Hatiya, Saturday.

With the help of middlemen, they boarded a fishing boat to Kutupalong refugee camp in Cox's Bazar, said the OC.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers Saturday night, the middlemen left them at a wharf in village Char Mozammel of Mohammadpur union, Subarnachar.

"Setara had been suffering from fever for the last 25 days and became weaker every day. She died as the locals were rushing her to the hospital today," Noor Bahar told the law enforcers.

"We will take legal action over the incident," OC Ziaul said.
