With the recent surge in Covid cases overwhelming the health infrastructure in Barishal division, local authorities have imposed a ban on the admission of general patients to Sher-E-Bangla Medical College and Hospital, reports UNB.

“As Covid cases are surging in the municipal area, general patients with treatable medical issues at district and upazila health complexes have been prohibited from coming to SBMCH,” the director of divisional health directorate, Basudeb Kumar Das, said on Thursday.

Physicians at the hospital are struggling to keep the crumbling health infrastructure of the premier medical facility in the division afloat, with a daily footfall of around 2,000 patients, according to officials.
