Teacher arrested for allegedly raping child in Natore
Police arrested a teacher for allegedly raping a nine-year-old child at Rameshwarpur in Natore Sadar upazila on Wednesday night.
The arrestee is Pervez Hossain, a resident of the upazila.
Police said Pervez used to teach religion near his house at Singhardar in the upazila. On Wednesday, he took a student of his class to home, offering to visit the house and raped the child, said Subrata Kumar, sub-inspector of Sadar police station.
Hearing screams of the child, local people rushed in and rescued the child while the Pervez managed to flee, reports news agency UNB.
The child was taken to the Sadar Hospital.
Later, police conducted a drive at night and arrested Pervez.
Bangladesh saw a rise in incidents of child rape and sexual assault on children last year. At least 1,005 incidents of child rape were recorded during this period, according to Bangladesh Shishu Adhikar Forum (BSAF).
On average, about 84 children became victims of rape in every month of 2019.
