Two elderly persons left on Savar streets ‘fearing virus infection’

Two sexagenarians found abandoned in the streets of Savar, apparently over fears of being infected by coronavirus, have been rescued and admitted to Savar Upazila Health Complex.

Savar upazila assistant commissioner (land) and executive magistrate Abdullah Al Mahfuz said an ill 65-year-old woman was rescued from Joynabari in the upazila on Saturday morning and then taken to the upazila health complex.

A medical team collected samples from the woman and they were sent to Dhaka for the COVID-19 test on Sunday.

Besides, another 60-year-old man with stomach ache was rescued from Majhipara in the Savar municipality early Sunday.

Nazmul Huda Mithu, acting family planning officer of Savar Upazila Health Complex, said the man was brought in, and both of them had been sent to the isolation unit of the hospital.

Primarily it is suspected that both of them may have been left where they were found by their families, over fears of being infected by coronavirus.

Samples of both were collected and sent for the COVID-19 test.
