Two sisters among three have newly been infected with the novel coronavirus in Pirojpur’s Mathbaria upazila.
Ali Hassan, health and family planning officer at the upazila, confirmed this to Prothom Alo on Sunday.
Officials at the Mathbaria Upazila Health Complex said the two siblings were admitted to the hospital after returning from Dhaka.
The health officials collected samples from them for test and sent to the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal.
They were informed on Saturday night that the two sisters tested positive for the COVID-19.
The officials also said a youth also came back from Dhaka after sending his samples for coronavirus test there. The Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) on Saturday reported that the youth is COVID-19 positive.
Asked about the matter, Ali Hassan said the two siblings were sent into isolation after their virus infections had been confirmed.
The youth has been undergoing treatment at home, he added.
Mathbaria upazila nirbahi officer Urmi Bhowmik said the home of the youth was put under lockdown.
Officials at the Pirojpur district health department said some 20 people have been diagnosed with the novel virus so far. Eight of them are at Sadar upazila while seven at Bhandaria, four at Mathbaria and one at Kaukhali.
