KUET bans politics, forms committee to identify perpetrators

All types of politics on the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) campus will remain banned.

The decision has been taken at the 93th syndicate meeting of the university on Wednesday.

The syndicate also takes decisions that the students, who will involve in politics, will be expelled and their studentship will be cancelled.

Besides, teachers, officials and staff will also not be allowed to engage in any political organisations.

A committee has been formed at the syndicate meeting to investigate the clashes that broke out between the leaders and activists of Chatrodal and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

The-four member committee headed by Computer Science and Engineering Department professor MMA Hashem has been asked to submit report within three working days.

University pro-VC professor Sheikh Shariful Alam confirmed this to Prothom Alo.

It is decided at the syndicate meeting that the university administration will take necessary measures including filing cases against the outsiders involved in the yesterday's incidents. And the students who are also involved in the incident will be expelled temporarily.

The university authorities will bear the medical cost for the injured and measures will be taken to ensure the security on the campus.

All academic activities will remain shut till 28 February in order to ensure the security of the students.

A clash and chase and counter-chase took place between the leaders and activists of Chatrodal and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement centering a demand to ban student politics at KUET yesterday, Tuesday. Around 100 people were injured in the incident.

A press conference was organised at the medical centre of the campus on Tuesday night. A five-point demand was made there. The demand are: An ordinance has to be issued with a provision that none of the university will be allowed to involve in politics and if anyone is involved will be expelled forever, those who are involved in yesterday's incident will be sued and expelled, and deployment of army outside the campus till 28.
