A woman, claiming to be the wife of Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) constituency’s member of parliament Enamul Huque, has accused him of deception and forcefully aborting her foetus.

The woman, Ayesha Akter Liza, 30, posted a status on Facebook claiming that she was receiving death threats from the followers of the lawmaker on 29 May.

MP Enamul Haque, however, claimed that Ayesha was her second wife, but he had already divorced her. Ayesha, however, denied receiving any divorce notice.

She posted some photos on Facebook that showed her close to the MP. “The followers of the MP have been threatening to kill me. They are saying cases will be concocted against me and I’d be thrown in jail,” Ayesha wrote on Facebook on 1 June. “He will divorce me because I took resort to the media. I’m so upset. I’ll go to the prime minister and seek justice.” She added.

According to her Facebook post, Ayesha is an entrepreneur who met Enamul in 2012. They got married at Ayesha’s parental residence in Baghmara on 30 April 2013, but the marriage was not registered on behest of the MP as the pregnancy would harm his image and pose difficulty to receive nomination.

Ayesha stated she has video clips and photos of the marriage ceremony. She claimed she got pregnant in 2015, but Enamul made her abort the pregnancy as it was unwanted for him before the election.

Ayesha said their marriage was registered on 11 May 2018.

Contacted over phone, Enamul said he had divorced the woman on 23 April. “If she wants to say anything she can say at the court. Why should she share these on Facebook and the media? This were done on an intention to harm my reputation.”
