Woman with COVID-19 symptoms dies in Rajshahi

A woman apparently showing symptoms of novel coronavirus disease died at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital early Wednesday, reports news agency UNB.

Abu Hena Mostafa, in-charge of Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital, said the 46-year-old was hospitalised on 20 March with fever, cold related issue and breathing problems.

As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to the ICU on 22 March where she died around 12:45am.

Saiful Ferdous, deputy director of the hospital, said they contacted the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR). But the woman died before samples could be collected.

Bangladesh has so far reported five deaths from coronavirus infection. The total number of infected people in the country is now 27 and seven people have recovered.

Quoting IEDCR authorities, UNB said so far 794 people have been tested in Bangladesh.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from COVID-19 reached 18,895 on Wednesday.

The virus, first reported in China, has so far infected 422,629 people around the world, according to worldometers.info.
