Mohammed Nasim to be buried at Banani graveyard

Ruling Bangladesh Awami League leader and former health minister Mohammed Nasim passed away at Bangladesh Specialised Hospital in the capital on Saturday.

He was 72.

His son Tanvir Shakil Joy told media that his father breathed his last at the hospital around 11:10 am, reports news agency UNB.

The namaz-e-janaza of the AL leader will be held at Banani Jam-e-Masjid around 10:30am on Sunday and he will be buried at his mother’s grave there, AL leader Jahangir Kabir Nanak told newsmen in front of the hospital around 1:30pm today.

His body will be kept at the mortuary of the hospital at night.

Nasim’s body will not be taken to Sirajganj due to coronavirus situation, said Nanak.

Earlier on Friday night, an emergency meeting of a 12-member medical board was held through a videoconference after his health condition deteriorated.

Nasim’s son was present at the meeting.

The medical board was formed on 8 June.

The former minister underwent a successful surgery after his condition deteriorated on 5 June following a stroke while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

A day before that, his health condition had improved and he was scheduled to be shifted to a cabin from ICU.

On 2 June, Nasim tested positive for coronavirus infection.

Nasim, had been performing as convenor for the 14-party alliance forged around the heft of Awami League.

Besides, speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Nasim.
