Death-row convict Jamaat-e-Islami chief Matiur Rahman Nizami on Tuesday asked his family members to exercise restraints and to keep patience as he was walking to the gallows.

The Jamaat ameer gave the last instructions to his family members when some 25 members of his family met him for the last time at the Dhaka Central Jail on Tuesday evening.

Two nieces of the Jamaat leader-Shanu Aktar and Lutfa Begum-told this to a Prothom Alo correspondent at the jail gate.
The two nieces, who visited their death-row convict uncle at Dhaka Central Jail with other family members, returned home on foot.

Shanu and Lutfa told the Prothom Alo that their uncle (Nizami) did not look worried although he was going to be executed shortly.

He, on the contrary, instructed his family members to remain strong mentally and to say prayers.

Nizami also sought prayers for himself from them.

Asked about Nizami’s condition in the jail, Lutfa and Shanu said their uncle was saying his prayers when they entered there.
