Madaripur college teacher hacked
Assailants hacked a teacher of Madaripur Government Naziumuddin College at his residence in the district town on Wednesday afternoon, said police.
The victim has been identified as Ripon Chakrawarty, a mathematics lecturer.
The attempt bears trademark of the recent violent attacks allegedly by militants.
The local police detained one alleged Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) activist in this connection.
UNB said, a group of three miscreants knocked at the door of Ripon’s residence at College Road behind the college around 4pm. As soon as the college teacher opened the door, the attackers started chopping him.
“Three assailants carried out the attack on Ripon Chakrabarty with sharp weapons at his rented house in the town's College Gate area around 5pm and tried to flee the scene,” police personnel M Fayekuzzaman told BSS. One of the attackers was reportedly caught by locals while he was fleeing and brought to police.
Critically wounded Ripon was rushed to Madaripur Sadar Hospital and later shifted to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.
BSS quoted the sub-inspector of Madaripur model police station as saying that arrestee Golam Saifullah Fahim, 20, hailed from Chapainawabganj, is an activist of ICS.
The UNB report gave the name of the detainee as Prince Faijullah, hailing from Chapainawabgajn.
