Arrested Faizullah ‘shot dead’
The prime accused in Madaripur teacher murder-attempt was shot dead during a police drive in Miar Char area of Sadar upazila in Madaripur Saturday morning.
Madaripur police superintendent Sarwat Hossain told Prothom Alo that police along with the suspect, Golam Faizullah Fahim, 19, went for a drive to arrest his cohorts in the area in the morning.
Sensing the presence of police, miscreants opened fire on police van and then the police fired gunshots in retaliation when Faizullah was shot and died on the spot, according to the claim of the police officer.
Ripon Chakrabarty, a mathematics lecturer at Madaripur Government Naziumuddin College, was chopped by some assailants at his residence in the district town on Wednesday afternoon.
Locals caught Faizullah, hailed from Chapainawabganj, while fleeing the scene after the attack and handed him over to police.
Later, Madaripur sadar police station sub-inspector Ayub Ali filed an attempt-to-murder case accusing six people.
Ayub Ali said Golam Faizullah was the prime accused in the case and in accordance with his confession. Five other accused are Salman Taksin alias Abul Hossain alias Salim, 19, Shahriar Hasan alias Palash, 22, Jahin, 23, Raihan, 24, and Mesbah, 24.
