Eminent citizens join search body talks

All the 12 eminent citizens, who were invited to the talks on election commission reconstitution, have joined the meeting organised by the president-appointed search committee to choose the next election commissioners.

Being held at Supreme Court premises since 4:15pm on Monday, the meeting will be taking inputs from the 12 persons who have attained immense experience in their career and social life.
The search committee is expected to receive possible names of ‘neutral’ persons who would be chosen as election commissioners.
The committee has also sought five possible names from each of the 31 political parties that held talks with the president, Abdul Hamid, for the purpose.
The six-member search committee is being led by Appellate Division judge Syed Mahmud Hassan.
The 12 eminent citizens are former High Court judge Md Abdur Rashid, professor AK Azad Chowdhury, professor Serajul Islam Choudhury, professor SMA Fayez, former caretaker government adviser Sultana Kamal, former chief election commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda, former election commissioner Sohul Hussain, former election commissioner Sakhawat Hussain, local government expert Tofail Ahmed, secretary of Shushanor Jonno Nagorik Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dhaka University professor Abul Quasem Fazlul Huq and former inspector general of police Nurul Huda.
