Mahila Awami League gets new leadership

The Mahila Awami League, ruling party’s women front, has got new leadership as Safia Khatun and Mahmuda Begum were elected its president and general secretary respectively.

The new leadership of the associate body of the ruling party was announced on Saturday, reports UNB.

Awami League (AL) general secretary, also road transport and bridges minister, Obaidul Quader declared their names at the end of Mahila Awami League’s national council in the Krishibid Institution auditorium in the capital city.

Safia Khatun was vice president of Mahila Awami League, while Mahmuda Begum Krik was organising secretary.

Ashrafunnesa Mosharraf was the president of the outgoing committee of Mahila Awami League, while Pinu Khan was its acting general secretary.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina, also AL president, was present at the council as chief guest.

The last national council of Mahila Awami League was held in 2003.

Shaheda Tarique Deepti and Sobnam Shila were elected president and general secretary of Mahila Awami League’s Dhaka North City unit respectively, while Sabera Begum and Nargis Rahman were elected president and general secretary of its Dhaka South City unit respectively.
