Dhaka stands 2nd among top Facebook using cities

Bangladesh capital of Dhaka has been ranked 2nd among the top cities of the world with 2.2 crore active Facebook users which covers 1.1 per cent of total users.
Dhaka was third with 1.6 crore active Facebook users covering 0.9 per cent of total users till January while the city now in April secured the 2nd position.

Thai capital of Bangkok bagged the top position having 3 crore active Facebook users with 1.5 per cent of total in the category of city while Indonesian capital of Jakarta secured the third position with the same 2.2 crore users, according to a global report titled “Digital in 2017 Global Overview” conducted by social media research organisations ‘We Are Social’ and ‘Hootsuite’.

The two organisations have teamed up to bring a suite of reports detailing digital statistics and trend for 239 countries around the world.

Mexican capital of Mexico City secured the 4th position while Brazilian city of Sao Paulo 5th, Indian capital of New Delhi 6th, Peruvian capital of Lima 7th, Turk city of Istanbul 8th, Egyptian capital of Cairo 9th and Vietnamese Ho Chi Minh City attained the 10th position.

In country category, United States topped the list having over 21.9 crore active Facebook users while India secured the second position with 21.3 crore users ahead of Brazil securing 3rd, Indonesia 4th, Mexico 5th, Philippines 6th, Vietnam 7th, Turkey 8th Thailand 9th and United Kingdom 10th position.

According to the report of January the number of social media users across the globe grew by 20 per cent over the past 12 months with well over one third of total population now using social media every month.

“Mobile social media use is growing even faster with global monthly active user numbers up 30 percent year-on-year to reach more than 2.5 billion,” it said.

It also said more than half of the world’s population now uses the internet with more than 3.75 billion people online today.

“Internet use continues to grow all over the world with global users up 8 per cent year-on-year. An increasing share of online activity takes place on mobile with more than half of all web traffic now going to mobile phones,” it said.

It said nearly two-thirds of the world population now uses a mobile phone, and with 55 per cent of all active connections are coming from smartphones, it is likely that more than half of the world population now uses s smartphone.
