DU women's hall bans shalwar with t-shirt

The authorities at Dhaka University's Poet Sufia Kamal Hall have recently banned wearing shalwar with t-shirt inside the dormitory, terming it 'indecent'.
A picture of the notice, which read, "Dressing up in salwar and t-shirt at any time inside the dormitory will be a punishable offence" has gone viral on Facebook.
Our reporter could not find hall provost Sabita Rezwana Rahman at the dormitory in the morning. The hall officials also chose to keep mum on the issue. They even refused to provide the reporter with the contact number of the provost.
The notice did not go down well with present and former students.

"Nobody has the right to decide what I shall wear," said a resident student of the dormitory.
One can wear any outfit one feels comfortable in, she further said, adding that introduction of such a rule is very unfortunate.
Dhaka University’s women and gender studies department teacher Syed Shaikh Imtiaz said, “The girls can wear what they prefer. I don’t think the authorities should interfere here.”
The dormitory is named after poet Sufia Kamal who is famous for her role in empowering women. There are 2,000 residential students and 3,300 nonresidential students attached to the dormitory, which was inaugurated in 2012.
