Another water-tank blast victim dies

A woman, who along with four other people sustained burn injuries after an underground reservoir of a house exploded and caught fire in the city's Pallabi area on Tuesday, has succumbed to her injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), raising the death toll into two.

Hasin Ara Khanam, 60, wife of Yeakub Ali, died at the DMCH burn unit around 8:00am on Thursday, said sub-inspector Bachchu Miah of the DMCH police camp, reports UNB.

Earlier, Ruhi, 3, succumbed to her injuries at the DMCH burn unit early Wednesday.

Five people, including Hasin Ara and her husband Yeakub Ali, suffered burn injuries as a fire broke out following the explosion of the water tank of the six-storey building around 11:30am on Tuesday.

The blast occurred when worker Hasan lit a candle inside the water tank while cleaning it.

All the victims were taken to the DMCH burn unit. The other victims are building owner Yakub Ali, 70, Yeasmin, 41, her daughter Ruhi, 3 and Hasan, 32.

Of them, Hasinara suffered 95 per cent burns while Hasan 85 per cent, Yeasmin 41 per cent and Yakub 25 per cent, said the police officer.
