Tarique docs disappeared from Shahriar Facebook page

State minister for foreign affairs M Shahriar Alam claimed on Tuesday that his Facebook page was hacked.

And, he added, the post he gave on Monday showing copies of BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s passport and application to the UK home office was no longer there.

Shahriar’s Facebook post on Tuesday reads, “My Facebook (page) has gone through huge torture overnight. Hacking! The posts have disappeared.”

Asked about the matter, Shahriar Alam on Tuesday morning told Prothom Alo that some of his Facebook posts had been vanished as, he insisted, his page was hacked.

Addressing a reception in London a few days ago, the state minister told newsmen that Tarique Rahman, who has been living in London since 2008, gave up his nationality by handing over his Bangladesh passport to the UK home office almost four years ago.

Following the state minister’s remarks, the BNP challenged and the BNP's law affairs secretary Kaiser Kamal, on behalf of Tarique Rahman, served a legal notice upon Shahriar.

According to the legal notice, Shahriar was asked to say sorry either to the nation or Tarique Rahman. Otherwise, it added, legal action will be taken.

Addressing a press conference at his Gulshan house following the legal notice, Shahriar on Monday reiterated his position and said Tarique, his wife and daughters handed over their passports to the UK home office nearly in June 2014.

He also said the UK home office then sent their passports to the Bangladesh high commission in London. The passports are now kept at the Bangladesh high commission office.

After the press conference, Shahriar Alam posted copies of Tarique’s passport and the application to the UK government.
