DMP urges students to return home

Amid country-wide student protest that has already disrupted normal life particularly in the capital, a senior official of Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Thursday urged students to return home.

In a press conference, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) additional commissioner Monirul Islam said the demands of the protesting students will be met and urged them to return to their houses.

"Already the implementation process of their demands has started," news agency UNB quoted Monirul as saying.

He expressed deep shock on behalf of DMP to the families of the victim students who were killed in the Sunday's road crash.

Expressing his condolence, Monirul said that North Division of Detective Branch (DB) is investigating the case filed in connection with the incident.

Already, an owner, two drivers and two helpers of the buses linked to Sunday's tragic accident, have been arrested, said the police official.

There was a previous direction to traffic police against irregularities on the roads and highways, and they have been working accordingly. He said mismanagement on the roads and highways came down.

Though the educational institutions have been closed down for the day, the students came out on the roads, which created public sufferings, said the CTTC chief.

Monirul said considering the security issues, the plying of the long-distance vehicles has been kept suspended.

He also urged the people not to get confused by rumours.
