Shajahan Khan says he won't resign

Shipping minister Shajahan Khan, who is facing widespread flak for his visibly smirk reaction over the road crash that killed two students, has said he will not resign giving in to the demand of Bangladesh National Party (BNP), reports UNB.

Talking to the reporters at the Secretariat, the minister said, "The protesting students aren't demanding my resignation; rather BNP demanded it. There's no scope of resigning from my position accepting their demand."

The question of minister's resignation came to light as on 29 July, while talking to the newsmen about the road crash at the Secretariat, the minister said smilingly that "33 people died in India recently, but they (Indians) don't complain about it as we do."

Such comment and smirk stirred an outrage on social media with many people asking for unconditional apology and the minister's resignation.

On Tuesday, Shajahan Khan offered his apology and urged all to overlook his mistake with a spirit of forgiveness.

A bus ploughed through some college students on 29 July as they were standing by the road in front of Kurmitola General Hospital, leaving two dead and 12 others injured.
