3 more detained for 'spreading rumours' on FB

Law enforcement has detained three more young men from the capital on allegation of trying to create unrest by spreading rumours on social media to instigate the recent student protest.

The detainees are Touhidul Islam Tusar, 24, son of a certain Abdur Razzak, Md Waliullah, 28, son of one Saiful Islam and Md Ehasanuddin Ifas, 18, son of one Nurul Alam, reports UNB.

A cyber-crime prevention team conducted separate drives from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning in different areas and arrested them, said ADC Nazmul Islam of cyber crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The team also recovered their mobile phones, laptops, memory cards, he said.

A case was filed with Ramna police station against them in this connection.

The actual intention of spreading rumours on facebook would be cleared after interrogation, the official added.

Earlier, three Dhaka University (DU) students were handed over to police from Fazlul Huq Muslim Hall on Tuesday morning on charge of spreading rumours on Facebook.

They were, however, released in the afternoon.
