Cop detained for ‘yaba trading’

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in a drive on Friday detained a sub-inspector of police for his alleged involvement in drug trading.

The detainee is sub-inspector Badruddoza of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), reports UNB.

The policeman was detained following a confessional statement of truck driver one Md Moktar, 24, and his helper Md Sobuj Prakash Babu, 19, said RAB-7 senior assistant director (media) Mimtanur Rahman.

The truck driver and his helper were arrested early Friday along with 29,285 pieces of yaba tablets, he added.

Acting on a tip-off, the RAB members intercepted a pick-up van from nearby Redwan Petrol Pump in Mirsharai upazila and recovered the yaba pills from inside a file-cabinet, which was being taken to the Dhaka residence of SI Badruddoza, said the RAB official.

The price of the seized yaba pills is worth about Tk 18.60 million, he added.

Meanwhile, SI Badruddoza was detained in Khulshi police station, said additional deputy commissioner Shakila Sultana of CMP’s public order management department.
