7 sentenced to death for killing Gazipur businessman

A Gazipur court on Monday sentenced seven people to death in a case filed in connection with the murder of a businessman in 2011, reports UNB.

The condemned convicts are - Rajib Hossain Raju, Md Kaiyum, Rajib Hossain, Faruk Hossain, Shafiqul Islam, Ali Hossain and Mohammad Ali.

The court also sentenced another accused Masud to 10 years imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, there was an enmity between Milon Bhuiyan, son of Habibur Rahman in Lakshmipur area and the convicts over money.

The convicts obstructed Milon in front of Bhawal National Park on 26 February in 2011 and hacked him indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured. He was taken to a hospital where physicians declared him dead.

Victim's uncle, Akhter Hossain, filed a case with Joydebpur police station. Later, police submitted chargesheet against 10 people.

After examining all the records and witnesses, Gazipur district and sessions judge AKM Enamul Haque handed down the verdict acquitting two accused.
