Tasfia Amin, a schoolgirl found dead in Patenga on 2 May last, committed suicide by drowning herself, reports UNB quoting a police report.

Abu Bakar Siddique, additional deputy commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), said Detective Branch (DB) sub-inspector Swapan Kumar submitted the final report to the prosecution section of the court in Chattogram on Sunday.

Drowning was mentioned as the reason for the death, he said.

During the investigation, a total of 16 people, including six witnesses, gave their depositions, Abu Bakar said, adding that viscera report also stated that she drowned in water.

"Following the statements of 16 witnesses and the postmortem report, we've reached the conclusion that Tasfia committed suicide by drowning herself," he said.

Meanwhile, family members of the schoolgirl rejected the police report, saying they will file a no-confidence petition with the court.

Her mother Naima Khanam claimed that Tasfia did not commit suicide. "There's no reason for her to kill self."

On 2 May, Tasfia Amin, a Class-IX student, was found dead in Petanga area after she went missing the previous day.

Tasfia's father filed a case against six people in this connection. Later, police arrested two people and another accused of the case identified as Firoz surrendered before the court.
