BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie alleged activists of ruling party student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) has attacked his residence in Lakshmipur district.

BCL men on Wednesday afternoon attacked his residence at Godown Road in the town, he added.

BCL, however, denied the allegation and said the attack was carried out by BNP men over the factional clash.

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader said several hundred BCL activists led by district unit general secretary Ziaul Karim Nishan attacked Annie’s house while the local BNP leaders were holding a views-change meeting there.

Annie, the central publicity secretary of BNP, was not present at that time.

Annie told Prothom Alo, “They vandalised 10 motor bikes, smashed the windows and doors, and ransacked the chairs of the house.”

Denying the allegation, BCL general secretary Nishan said, “I have heard they fought within the party over their factional feuds. Now they are trying to blame the BCL out of their political vengeance.”

Lakshmipur sadar model police station’s officer-in-charge Mohammad Lokman Hossain said, “The attackers had fled the scene before police reached there.”

No complaint was filed in connection with the matter, he added.
