UP chairman gunned down

A union parishad chairman was gunned down by some miscreants at Karfa Bazar in Ujirpur, Barishal on Friday night, reports UNB.

The deceased is Bishwajit Baroi Nantu, 40, chairman of Jalla union parishad and also president of union Awami League.

Shishir Kumar Pal, officer-in-charge of Ujirpur police station, said that some youths riding on two motorcycles came to Bishwajit's shop 'Swarna Garments and Cloth Store' on Friday night and opened fire on him, leaving him critically injured.

Rescued by locals, he was rushed to Ujirpur Health Complex.

As his condition deteriorated, he was taken to Barishal Sher-e Bangla Medical College and Hospital where the physicians declared him dead.

Three bullet injury marks were found in his body, said the OC.

Md Saiful Islam, superintendent of Barishal district police, said that they are trying to arrest the killers.
