Armed pirates detained in Bhola

Local fishermen caught 12 pirates with some indigenous arms from Meghna River in Monpura Island of Bhola on Tuesday night, reports UNB.

Fishermen Liton Mazi, Rased Mazi and Hemuz Mazi said pirates with two trawlers attacked them while they were netting fish in the river area around 9:30pm.

As the attacked fishermen cried for help, at least 15 trawlers of the fishermen came forward and caught the pirates from one trawler, they added.

On information, members of coastguard and police arrested them and brought them to Monpura police station, said Abdul Aziz, commander of Monpura coastguard station.
The arrested pirates are Md Hatem, 48, Monirul Islam, 35, Shadat, 38, Mosleahuddin, 45, Chadek, 49, Nuruddin, 40, Abul Hossain, 45, Mofizul Islam, 46, Rafiqul Islam, 77, Ismail, 42, Nur Islam, 45, and Rahim, 19, residents of different upazilas of Laxmipur district.

A case was filed with the police station in this connection, the commander added.
