Indigenous girl alleges UPDF men ‘abduct, assault’ her

A college girl of an indigenous community on Friday alleged that she was abducted and assaulted after being confined for more than three months by the members of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF), a hill tracts based political party, reports UNB.

The victim--Mitali Chakma--demanded immediate and exemplary punishment of the UPDF members at a press briefing at Khagrachhari Press Club in the morning.

The girl, a third year student of Rangamati Government College, alleged that she was abducted from her residence in Badipur area in the district town on 17 August after she refused to join the group run by Prasit Khisa.

The UPDF men took her to Dulchhari area and carried out physical assault on her since then, she told reporters at the press conference.

Later, on 19 November, the law enforcers managed to rescue her from the place.

Following the incident, the girl herself filed a case with Rangamati police station accusing 30 people on 20 November.

She also alleged that her family members had received threat from the group over the incident adding that they were feeling insecure.

However, Nirab Chakma, spoke-person of UPDF, ruled out the allegation saying that the vested quarter staged the drama to taint the image of the party.
