The authorities of Viqarunnisa Noon School and College (VNSC) on Friday appointed a new acting principal and morning shift in-charge for its Bailey Road branch after the posts were vacated following suspension over suicide of a student, reports UNB.

Hasina Begum, an assistant professor of the institution, was appointed to the post of acting principal while Mohsin Talukder was made the morning shift in-charge, said Golam Ashraf Talukder, president of the school governing body.

The decisions were taken at an emergency meeting in the evening.

Aritree Adhikari, a ninth grade student of the institution, reportedly committed suicide at their Shantinagar residence in the capital on city on 3 December after allegedly being rebuked by teachers for using mobile phone during an examination.

Following the incident, the victim’s father Dilip Adhikari filed a case against three teachers of the school.

It sparked a wave of outrage inside and outside the school and students demonstrated at the campus for three days demanding justice over the incident.

Later on Wednesday, the governing body of the school suspended its three teachers—acting principal Nazneen Ferdous, morning shift in-charge of Bailey Road branch Jeenat Akhter and Aritree’s class teacher Hasna Hena—over the incident.

A Dhaka court on 6 December sent Hasna Hena to jail after detectives in a raid arrested her from the city’s Uttara area on Wednesday night.
