150 BNP candidates attacked: Rizvi
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Saturday alleged around 150 BNP candidates have been attacked by the ruling Awami League ‘terrorists’ and the ‘law enforcement members’.
At a press conference at the party's Naya Paltan central office, the BNP leader said two candidates were imprisoned and candidatures of some including Khaleda Zia have been kept pending at the court.
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi also alleged that the law enforcement has opened fire on the candidates.
BNP general secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and senior leaders of the Jatiya Oikya Front including Kamal Hossain were also attacked, he pointed out.
Rizvi said a politically motivated case has been filed against Kamal Hossain, which reveals the bad taste of the government.
The ruling Awami League government is not caring anyone, he added.
The BNP leader noted the way the renowned lawyer and also author of the constitution is humiliated, it proves the government is being run by 'miscreants'.
He said the chief election commissioner's speech is fuelling more repressions on the opposition by the police.
Rizvi said his party informed the election commission about the violence, attacks by police and AL men, but the EC did not take any action.
He alleged the attacks on the BNP candidates were carried out in the presence of police.
The posters, banners of BNP candidates are being damaged in all the 300 constituencies and arrests of BNP leaders and activists are also going on, Rizvi said.
