The verdict in the New Eskaton double murder case against Bakhtiar Alam Rony, son of former Awami League MP Pinu Khan, will now be delivered on 30 January, reports UNB.

Dhaka additional metropolitan session's judge Manjurul Imam fixed the date on Tuesday after closing fresh law-point arguments from both sides.

The court was supposed to pronounce its judgment on 4 October 2018. However, it deferred for the second time the verdict date in the double murder case as the prosecution filed a petition to summon the investigation officer of the case for rehearing.

Following the petition, judge of the Dhaka additional metropolitan session judge's court-1 Md Monjurul Imam asked IO Dipak Kumar Das to present a mobile call list to the court on 17 October last year.

The court was set to deliver the verdict first on 8 May 2018. The judgment in the case was deferred on the day as judge Md Al Mamun said he could not prepare the judgment. So, he decided to defer the delivery of the judgment.

On 13 April 2015, Bakhtiar Alam Rony, said to be a drug addict, opened fire on people indiscriminately near Janakantha Bhaban in New Eskaton area from his car, leaving two people -- rickshaw-puller Abdul Hakim and Janakantha's auto-rickshaw driver Yakub -- injured with bullets.

Hakim succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on 15 April while Yeakub died at the hospital on 23 April.

On 15 April, a case was filed with Ramna police station against unidentified people in this connection.

On 1 June, law enforcement arrested Rony from his Dhanmondi residence in connection with the firing.
