Zia’s 83rd birth anniversary being observed

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Saturday paid homage to its founder Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of his 83rd birth anniversary, reports UNB.

BNP leaders and activists led by its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir placed wreaths at Zia's Sher-e-Banglanagar grave around 10:00am.

Later, they offered fateha following a special monazat seeking salvation of departed soul of Zia.

The party’s standing committee members Khandaker Mosharaf Hossain, Moudud Ahmed, Abdul Moyeen Khan, vice chairmen Selima Rahman, Mohammad Shahjahan, Ruhul Alam Chowdhury and AZM Zahid, among others, were present there.

Leaders and activists of BNP's different units and associate bodies also placed wreaths at the grave.

Ziaur Rahman was born on 19 January 1936 in Bagbari of Bogura. He founded the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in 1978 and became the country's seventh president.

To mark the day, the party hosted flag atop all the BNP offices across the country.

As part of the birth anniversary programmes, BNP arranged a discussion at the Supreme Court Bar Association auditorium on Friday.

The party's associate bodies and the district, city, upazila units also have been celebrating the birth anniversary with various programmes.
