There were celebrations in a quiet village of Faridpur's Saltha upazila as a man who went missing 47 years ago returned home on Saturday.

Hundreds of people crowded Batarkanda village to have a glimpse of Idris Ali, 59, who left his home with his uncle Momin Sheikh at the age of 12 in 1972.

Born in 1960, Idris is the youngest among two brothers.

His brother, Abu Taleb, expressed his joy at the reunion, saying he is very happy getting back his brother.

"I'm sure he's my brother as he could recall once I lost one of my teeth in my boyhood," said Taleb.

Idris shared his story with Prothom Alo.

"My father died at an early age. Poverty forced me to leave home with my uncle. He arranged a job for me in a restaurant in Kushtia," he said.

"But, the restaurant did not last there for long. I did all sort of jobs, as a herder, a farmer and a house help. I had no option to return home. I just about remembered my father's name, brother's name and the name of my village," Idris said.

Eventually, with the help of two persons, Idris managed to pinpoint the exact address of his home and then returned.
