A man has been arrested in a case lodged for raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter in Sherpur.

A Sherpur court sent the offender, Fazal Haque, 35, to jail on Monday.

The victim's parents, according to the case statement, were divorced a few years ago. Her mother then married to Fazal.

The girl went to the stepfather's residence on Friday, it says, adding that on Sunday night, Fazal first assaulted his wife and kicked her out of the house over a family feud.

On Monday morning, Fazal raped the 12-year-old girl at gunpoint. Hearing her screams, people rescued her, caught him and informed the police.

The mother of the girl filed the case under the women and children repression prevention act with the Sadar police station against her husband.

Sherpur senior judicial magistrate, Sarker Hasan Shahriar, recorded the victim's deposition.

Fazal, detained under section 164, also confessed to his crimes.

Sadar police station sub-inspector, Habibur Rahman, told Prothom Alo that the medical test of the girl was completed on Monday.
