2 Manikganj cops remanded for ‘rape’

A Manikganj court on Tuesday placed two officers of Saturia police station on a six-day remand in connection with the gang rape of a woman in the upazila dak bungalow of the district, reports UNB.

Manikganj judicial magistrate court-7 judge Mohammad Golam Sarwar passed the order.

Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge of Saturia police station, also the investigation officer of the case, produced sub-inspector Sekandar Hossain and assistant sub-inspector Mazharul Islam before the court with 10-day remand plea.

Sekandar and Mazharul were arrested around 2am after the victim filed a case against them on Monday night, said Rifat Rahman Shamim, superintendent of district police.

They were withdrawn from their duty station the previous day.

An investigation committee, comprising of additional superintendent of police Hafizur Rahman and senior assistant superintendent of district special branch Hamidur Rahman Siddique, investigated the incident after the victim filed a written complaint on Sunday.

ASP Hafizur said a case was filed after proofs were found against the two officials.

The victim's medical test was done at Manikganj General Hospital on Monday morning.

According to case statement, Sekandar took the victim to the dak bungalow when she came to the upazila headquarters along with another woman on Thursday afternoon.

He kept her confined to a room and forced her to take Yaba pills.

Later, Sekandar and Mazharul raped her in turns and released her on Friday morning. They threatened to kill her if she disclosed the matter.
